The mission of the Second Stage program is to bring new Alaskan audiences, artists, and ideas into our Theatre. This mission is rooted in the values of new Alaskan voices, underserved audiences, and emerging artists.
Our vision is a sustained commitment to new Alaskan writing over the next several years, curated and developed by a new generation of artists, and reaching a wide variety of audiences. Should their passion lead that way, we aim to impact the mainstage audiences, programming, and company of artists in future seasons.
Second Stage projects are produced by volunteers who make proposals for a project they’d like to do, and the theatre provides the facility, and pays royalties where applicable.

Mother Jones in Heaven
The 2013 Folk Festival gave birth to a creative partnership between guest artist Si Kahn and Juneauite Patricia Hull. Si attended the very first day of the festival when Patricia sang -- in gypsy dress and character -- with The Noodle of Doum. Intrigued by her performance, he sought her out with an eye towards her possibly bringing to life a one-woman musical he'd written about Mother jones. Patricia introduced Si to Art Rotch, the project became a PT Second Stage production, and in Summer 2013 it received a Catalyst Grant from the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council. The World Premiere of Kahn's MOTHER JONES IN HEAVEN will open at the Silverbow on March 7-16. Tickets are on sale now at Hearthside, www.jahc.org or online by clicking here. In gratitude, proceeds will be split between the organizations that have made this production possible: Perseverance Theatre, JAHC, and the Alaska Folk Festival. A special pay-as-you-can performance on Sunday March 9 at KTOO's TV studio will film the show before a live audience. The filming will be at 3pm on March 9, 2014.
